Neri: “I still have to return the jar.”
2. Orin ties string around the cracked pot while Neri listens.
Orin: “Tell them what you used it for.”
3. Neri tips the empty jar toward the light.
Neri: “A rescue sounds better than a missing thunderclap.”
4. Orin meets Neri’s gaze across the flower.
Orin: “It is what happened. That is enough.”

Neri: “So someone has to find more.”

1. Ilen lays out a full ledger beside a nearly blank return ledger.
Ilen: “Someone has to tell us where it went.”
2. Ilen follows a route from the ridge through the valley on a map.
Ilen: “Ridge jars arrived. The lower route sent nothing back.”
3. Neri questions Ilen, who closes the full ledger but leaves the blank one open.
Neri: “Nothing back? Not even an empty jar?”
4. Ilen holds up the missing return report.
Ilen: “Not a report. That is what worries me.”
Page 5
1. Outside, Neri and Ilen study the route board above the terraced lower valley.
Ilen: “The ridge begins its next capture tomorrow.”
2. Neri looks down the valley, lifting her goggles.
Neri: “Before anyone knows what the last one changed?”
3. Ilen holds her ledger beside waiting delivery crates.
Ilen: “I can delay a cart. Not the whole ridge.”
4. Neri points to the lower route on the map.
Neri: “Give me the missing route.”
Page 6

Ilen: “Bring back what you see. Not what we expect.”

Neri: “And a jar for the road?”
3. Ilen indicates sealed rain jars, marked with droplets, in a medical-supply crate.
Ilen: “That rain is promised to the infirmary.”
4. Neri closes her satchel while Ilen closes the crate.
Neri: “Then it stays here.”

3. Neri holds up the ledger and an empty hand.
Neri: “No.”
4. Neri sets her satchel aside and joins the workers at the lever. Eda speaks to her.
