Page 1

1. At the dawn mill meeting, Eda sets the sealed spiral wind jar between flour bowls. Neri sits among the neighbours with her ledger closed.

Eda: “One jar. After this, none.”

2. An older woman with a cloth headscarf puts an empty flour bowl beside the jar. Other neighbours listen.

Neighbour: “Keeping it will not feed us.”

3. Neri points out the mill and the dry garden terraces through the open doorway, asking rather than commanding.

Neri: “What lies in the wind’s path?”

4. Eda and the gathered neighbours look toward the seed beds beyond the sails. The jar stays sealed.

Eda: “The beds. Cover them first.”

Page 2

1. Neri and neighbours spread woven reed mats over dry seed beds below the windmill. Eda brings stones for the edges.

Neri: “These are too short.”

2. An older woman kneels and anchors one mat with stones; a thin strip of parched earth remains exposed.

Neighbour: “They are all we have.”

3. Back at the mill, Eda checks the repaired wooden drive pin with the mechanism stationary. Neri watches at a safe distance.

Eda: “Clear the drive before we open it.”

4. Neighbours raise their hands in agreement around the sealed spiral jar. Eda waits with her hand off the lid.

Neighbour: “Use it. We will share the flour.”

Page 3

1. On the open mill platform Eda secures the pale spiral jar in a wooden cradle facing the windmill sails. Neri stands beside her.

Eda: “One opening. No saving the rest.”

2. Close on Eda’s hands untying the rope and lifting the stone lid from the spiral jar. The first narrow curl of mist escapes.

Eda: “Stand behind me.”

3. A strong ribbon of wind curls from the open jar toward the sails, which begin to turn; Neri’s scarf streams backward.

Silent panel.

4. Inside the mill a worker watches flour fall steadily into the waiting bin as the shaft turns.

Worker: “It is turning!”

Page 4

1. Eda pours grain into the mill hopper while Neri steadies the sack. Flour fills a wooden bin below.

Eda: “Keep the grain coming.”

2. Outside, a mat lifts at one corner and dust streams across the exposed dry seed bed. No rain or water.

Silent panel.

3. Neri sees the dust through the mill doorway and sets down her grain sack.

Neri: “The lower bed!”

4. Neri and the headscarf neighbour crouch beside the seedlings, pressing the lifted mat down with their hands against the brief gust.

Neighbour: “Hold this edge!”

Page 5

1. The last faint swirl leaves the open spiral jar in its wooden cradle. The lid rests separately beside it.

Silent panel.

2. Outside the mill, Neri and Eda watch the sails stand still.

Eda: “That is all.”

3. Neri and the older neighbour lift the edge of the mat. Dust has covered some seedlings; others beneath the mat remain upright.

Neri: “Some are buried.”

4. The neighbour gently brushes dry dust away from a bent seedling. Neri holds the mat clear.

Neighbour: “We can uncover them. We cannot water them.”

Page 6

1. In the mill, Eda portions the newly ground flour into bowls for the assembled households. Neri returns dusty from the garden.

Eda: “Enough for today and tomorrow.”

2. Neri looks from the flour bowls to the empty spiral jar. Eda holds an unsigned report beside the ledger.

Neri: “Mark the mill restored?”

3. Eda places the report flat and keeps her hand away from the small stamp. Her expression is firm.

Eda: “No. It stopped again.”

4. Neri crosses out her proposed mark and writes a fuller account while Eda watches. Empty jar and flour bowls remain visible.

Neri: “Food gained. Reserve spent. Beds damaged.”

Page 7

1. Neri carries a shallow bowl of flour to the headscarf neighbour working at the dusty seed bed.

Neri: “I put the damage in the report.”

2. The neighbour accepts the flour and points to the still-dry earth.

Neighbour: “Put the water in it too.”

3. Neri sits on the low stone border and writes while the neighbour dictates; surviving seedlings stand beneath lifted mats.

Neri: “How much, and for how many beds?”

4. Eda places the spent open spiral jar on a shelf; the detached lid rests beside it.

Eda: “They can eat while I am gone.”

Page 8

1. Eda ties a travel bundle over her rolled-sleeve blouse and striped apron. Neri packs the checked reports and cloth pouch of two broken wooden pin pieces.

Neri: “Capture is this afternoon.”

2. Eda hands the mill keys to the headscarf neighbour beside the mill. The spent jar rests nearby.

Eda: “Save the seed grain. We will send word.”

3. Neri and Eda climb the stone path out of the lower valley, carrying papers and modest travel packs; neither carries a full weather jar.

Neri: “I came down looking for wind.”

4. Wide view from behind them: ahead the path climbs toward huge shutter frames on a distant ridge; behind lies the still mill and dry terraces.

Eda: “Then bring them the whole valley.”
