Episode summary

Hye-rin opens a drawer of unsent letters and chooses which one Haneul may read. A small group gathers to listen. Content note: Family separation and childhood guilt.

At Hye-rin's open doorway, Haneul has removed her boots and holds her teal coat over one arm. She stands in grey socks at the dry raised threshold. Go waits outside with her travelling lantern and bag. Hye-rin welcomes them with an open hand; old snow lies beside the lane. Inside her home, Hye-rin opens a shallow wooden drawer containing old envelopes. A rectangular lantern glows dimly on a separate wall bracket to the left. A smaller cream oval lantern remains unlit on the shelf to the right.
Haneul waits with her hands on her knees at the low table. Hye-rin slides one chosen envelope towards her. The other letters stay in the drawer. After receiving permission, Haneul unfolds only the chosen sheet over the low table. Its blank reverse faces the reader. Silent panel.
Later, five people sit at low tables in the village community room: Haneul and Hye-rin face each other, with Go, Park Yeong-su and his partner nearby. Bit sits beside Go. Hye-rin's drawer of closed envelopes rests on the table. The travelling lantern stands near the entrance, where coats and outdoor shoes have been left. Haneul reads Hye-rin's chosen letter aloud. Its handwritten Korean is visible on a cream sheet of ordinary letter size resting on the wooden table; Haneul's face and mouth remain visible above it.
Park Yeong-su has placed his own letter on the low table, with his left hand resting at its far-right corner. His partner sits quietly beside him. Haneul reads the letter aloud from outside the frame to the left. Hye-rin has taken back her own sheet. It rests beneath her hand as she begins to speak.
Hye-rin looks towards the community room's open door, keeping her hand on her letter. The scene stays in the present. Haneul sits at Hye-rin's eye level and answers her. Their hands remain separate, and Hye-rin keeps her letter.
The group stays with Hye-rin in the community room. Her left hand settles a cup onto its saucer while her right hand remains near her letter. Go's patchwork wrapping cloth rests with her. A cutaway returns to Hye-rin's empty home. The drawer bay in the cabinet is empty. The rectangular lantern on its original wall bracket now gives a small warm glow; the separate cream oval lantern on the shelf remains unlit. Silent panel.
Back in the community room, Go stops folding her patchwork wrapping cloth. Bit turns sharply towards the hillside window as a deeper note interrupts the small returning sounds. Above the ordinary village lane, a closed timber-and-plaster storehouse stands beneath the mountain ridge. Patchy snow lies beside the clear approach. The bell itself remains out of view. Silent final panel.
