Episode summary

Mi-rae recalls the childhood loss behind her vow. Haneul confronts what that promise cost her.

Haneul stands at the open doorway on the left, one hand on the jamb. Mi-rae faces her on the right with her hands clasped. Their red scarves match. An intact brass Bell hangs from a wall bracket above the wooden bench, its blue cord looped on the seat. Close view of Mi-rae looking left with her lips parted. Silver strands run through her dark hair, tied in a low bun. Her red scarf lies over a charcoal coat and cream knit.
In a warm-toned room, young Mi-rae sits on the floor in an ivory top and grey skirt, looking towards the open doorway. A framed monochrome portrait of a man stands on a low wooden table behind her. The floor beside her is empty, and snow is visible outside. Young Mi-rae looks towards the open doorway across the empty room. Her dark hair is tied low, and she wears the same ivory top and grey skirt. Warm light falls across the floor; snow lies outside.
In the recalled mountain scene, younger Seon-ja sits on a rock among snowy pines, her hands resting in her lap. Her dark hair is pinned in a low bun. Beside her, the Hush rises as a large dark mist silhouette with two red eyes. Seen from above, young Mi-rae sits alone on the room floor with her head lowered and her hands resting on her skirt. A broad empty space lies beside her. Light enters through the open doorway, and the lower edge of the wooden table is visible behind her.
Back at the storehouse, adult Mi-rae stands beside the wooden bench with her hands clasped. She looks left towards the doorway. Snowy village roofs are visible outside; she wears her charcoal coat, cream knit and red scarf. Close view of Haneul looking right with raised brows and her mouth slightly open. Her red scarf lies over the open teal coat and grey crossover jacket. The wooden doorway and snowy village remain behind her.
Mi-rae lowers her gaze, brows drawn together and lips parted. Her silver-streaked bun, red scarf, charcoal coat and cream knit remain visible against the timber wall and bench. Outside the storehouse, Go stands below the step and looks towards the open doorway. A brown bag hangs from her left shoulder, and she holds a glowing brass lantern in her right hand. Small cream-white Bit sits beside her, also facing the doorway. Snow covers the surrounding walls and roofs.
Haneul stands at the open doorway with her left hand resting on her upper chest and her right arm lowered. Her grey wrap jacket shows beneath the teal coat and red scarf. The wooden bench is behind her, with snow visible through the doorway. Mi-rae stands to the right of the hanging Bell, looking left towards the doorway. Her arms rest at her sides, with her hands outside the frame. The loose blue cord remains looped on the bench, and the intact brass Bell hangs from its crown loop on the wall bracket.
Close view of Mi-rae's hand gripping the blue cord below the hanging Bell. The cord curves between her hand and the central clapper, while its lower loop still rests on the wooden bench. The Bell remains supported by its crown loop on the wall bracket. Mi-rae's hand holds the blue cord taut beneath the Bell. The internal clapper is tilted against the right side of the brass rim. The intact shell hangs from its crown loop on the fixed wall bracket.
