Episode summary

Across Korea, the lantern wishes fall quiet. As Bit's glow falters, Haneul must decide what to do with the Bell's rope.

Twelve pale eaves lanterns glow above the quiet Cheongsan Teahouse. Warm interior light shows through its open doors beneath a blue winter sky. In a Jeju changing room, Eun-suk sits in her dry black diving suit with her lips parted. Seo-yeon watches her, supporting a cup with both hands. The basalt coast is visible through the window.
Jae-wook sits in a harbour workroom, looking towards the pale ribbed lantern on its shelf. Outside, a separate electric beacon still shines over the boats. At home, Hye-rin holds a closed folded letter with its blank reverse towards us. Her brow creases as she searches for words. The rectangular timber-framed lantern retains a faint pale light to the left of the window and cabinet.
Outside the storehouse, Go looks down with the pale travelling lantern in her right hand and the brown bag on her left shoulder. Bit stands near the stone step. Bit stands on four paws at the sheltered threshold. One ear lowers and his eyes strain as he looks up. Weak patches of gold light break around his solid cream-white body and single tail.
Haneul looks from the doorway towards her mother, her expression tense and alarmed. Her arms remain lowered beside her teal coat. Mi-rae opens her charcoal-sleeved hand above the bench. The released blue cord lies in a loose coil beneath the intact, bracket-supported Bell.
Haneul stands to the left of the Bell and bench, facing Mi-rae on the right. The open doorway remains on the left. The cord rests on the seat between them. Haneul supports a small length of blue cord on her open palm. A broad slack curve remains on the bench between her hand and the resting clapper.
In a close view, Haneul looks at Mi-rae and pauses. Her mother's shoulders draw inward and her face shows guarded fear. The intact Bell remains still between them; its blue cord disappears behind Haneul's shoulder. Bit sits upright beside the low step with his eyes open and one tail curled at his side. Go stands close by, still holding the lantern and leaving the doorway clear.
Haneul withdraws her open hand. The blue cord lies fully supported on the bench, with slack leading up to the still Bell. Haneul sits on the left of the bench, her empty hands resting separately, palms up, on her knees and both boots on the floor. Mi-rae remains standing on the right. The unused cord lies between them beneath the intact Bell.
