Suk-ja brings her cream rice cooker and reusable bag to Yu-na's workshop in the late afternoon.
Suk-ja: It keeps waiting.
Yu-na: For a part, or for a person?
The closed cooker has two Korean-labelled buttons and a disconnected plug beside it.
Suk-ja: It will not leave the warming cycle.
Yu-na examines the unplugged cooker while Suk-ja waits. The stranger keeps his hands away.
Yu-na: Leave it with me. I'll call after the test.
After closing, Yu-na and the stranger stand beside the reassembled cooker and its test record.
Narration: After closing.
Yu-na: The switch works. The test cycle finished.
The disconnected cooker's tiny status light glows turquoise.
Yu-na and the stranger bend towards the impossible light. The cooker remains closed and unplugged.
Yu-na: That isn't a switch fault.
Stranger: She used to fill it every evening.
Yu-na turns to challenge the stranger's assumption. The light has faded.
Yu-na: Did she tell you that?
Stranger: I can feel the waiting. Not who should come back.
Suk-ja returns after dark. Yu-na addresses her across the bench.
Yu-na: Would you like me to keep looking?
Suk-ja: What would you be looking for?
Suk-ja rests her hands separately on her bag and speaks with a level gaze.
Suk-ja: My children have their own tables now.
Suk-ja: I don't want a machine to tell me I failed.
Yu-na lowers her eyes and closes her diagnostic notebook.
Yu-na: It can't tell you that. Neither can I.
Suk-ja looks from the unlit cooker to Yu-na and offers a meal.
Suk-ja: There is a smaller setting.
Suk-ja: Have you eaten?
Yu-na answers Suk-ja. The stranger leans in, eager to explain the invitation.
Yu-na: Not yet.
Stranger: Perhaps this is what it wanted.
Suk-ja lifts her bag with the cooker safely inside. Yu-na opens the door for her.
Suk-ja: I was asking her.
