Sequence 1: Two channels

At the common dry table, Mara and Tamsin compare two maps under warm lamps. One is labelled 'OLD CHANNEL' and follows a winding bend; the other, 'NEW CUT', shows a straighter route. They consult a bound volume marked 'HARBOUR WORKS / WORK ORDER'. Tamsin holds up the signed harbour work order. Only the two women are present.

Sequence 5: The harbour's share

Mara compares the household list with an equipment-limit sheet listing the stabiliser cradle, dampers, securing kit and total load limit. Tamsin and the keeper sign the emergency loan.

Sequence 6: What it cannot do

At the isolated model basin, Mara lays a sketch of the borrowed U-shaped stabiliser beside the failed wave trace. Ivo looks at it, then at the short rigid connection between two small white model caissons. Mara explains that the equipment cannot repair that connection. A close view isolates the old rigid link. Sequence 9: Sideways

Mara operates the contained wave paddle from a dry handle while Ivo watches five linked model caissons. Small waves travel across the basin. Sequence 10: Not just once

With the basin stopped, Ivo adjusts a model load at the top of one caisson while Tamsin checks her list. The five platforms are tested again in small contained waves. Mara and Tamsin compare three sheets: 'OLD TEST' has large unstable oscillations, while 'NEW RUN 1' and 'NEW RUN 2' both settle within their red dotted margins. Edda insists that the failed sheet remain with the successful ones.

Mara: "Both runs settle."

Edda: "Keep the failed sheet with them."

Sequence 11: A closed branch

Tamsin checks 'Isolation' on the test schedule beside five model platforms labelled 1 to 5. Mara changes a small red lever on the model's dry manifold while Ivo watches. The platforms settle at changed levels and Tamsin records the results. Her sheet shows five coloured level traces remaining between the red dotted bounds. The real houses remain separate from this test.

Tamsin: "Now the isolation exercise."

Mara: "The load moves. It does not disappear."

Tamsin: "Within the tested allowance."

Sequence 12: A result with conditions

Tamsin presents the model result to Edda, Oren, Mara and Ivo at the basin. The old and new traces hang separately behind her, with the new result marked with a green tick. Ivo looks towards the real terrace. Tamsin holds the model results and real maintenance list as two separate documents. Mara places the 'VALVE FAULT REPORT' and 'CAISSON CRACK REPORT' side by side on the dry bench.

Tamsin: "The model passes this set of tests."

Ivo: "And the houses?"

Tamsin: "Repairs and shore checks first."

Mara: "Both faults. Nothing left off."

Sequence 13: A revised window

Tamsin receives a radio bulletin at the common table while Mara studies the corrected channel map. She pins a notice headed 'REVISED LIFT WINDOW' beside the chart. Mara places the maintenance checklist beneath it. The final view shows the new notice above the retained map labelled 'SUPERSEDED FORECAST'. No numerical deadline is displayed.

Radio: "Revised lift window issued."

Tamsin: "This replaces the stalled forecast."

Mara: "We finish the shore checks before it."

Sequence 14: Work that can start

Ivo and a harbour mechanic with dark brown skin, closely shaved hair, short beard and navy coveralls guide the secured stabiliser dolly along the guarded route. Mara and Tamsin follow. At a dry bench, Ivo lays the removed brass control parts beside replacements while the mechanic reads the service card. Mara and the mechanic compare the caisson crack drawing with the immense white caisson beyond a protected rail. Tamsin checks the loan inventory with the two workers beside the stabiliser. No repair is declared complete.

Sequence 15: Two records kept

At the upper-bank shelter, Neri sits on a simple iron bed with their bird notebook, binoculars and small olive bag nearby. Plain timber walls and a second bed surround them; the houses are visible lower down through the window. Ivo stands near the doorway with his canvas bag. Neri asks whether his own record reached the harbour. Ivo holds a sheet headed 'FAULT REPORT COPY', showing the valve and round handwheel he concealed. In the final wide view, the familiar teal stabiliser with its dark U-shaped saddle and angled brass dampers waits secured on its dolly while adult crews work in lit dry bays. The real houses remain above low water.

Ivo: "The harbour has your map."

Ivo: "That too."
