The evacuation record says the relay was empty. Its machinery tells another story, and Mara discovers what the missing minutes have cost.

Far Signal - Volume 1, Episode 6: The Missing Minutes

Reading order: top to bottom. Eight sequences, 32 panels.
Panel 1. Mara studies mismatched test signals on her tablet beside Sio, the small silver test cylinder and the connected reserve battery.
Mara: It lost one change. How many have they lost?
Panel 2. At Operations, Vale examines overlapping archive records and photographs on violet screens.
Vale: The transfer called a recovery routine. I have its instructions.
Panel 3. A tablet diagram traces an arrow from a later amber state back to an earlier cyan block.
Vale: It restores the last acknowledged state. Everything after that is discarded.
Panel 4. Oren looks gravely out of his cyan terminal beside the empty evacuation cradles.
Oren: The gaps after every blackout.
Panel 5. Mara follows the connected cable towards a closed cabinet while Sio waits beside the reserve battery.
Mara: We need a record that does not depend on that routine.
Panel 6. Vale points to a separate highlighted compartment on a relay diagram.
Vale: The service recorder. Separate supply, separate clock.
Panel 7. Mara works a manual ratchet against the stiff cabinet latch. Sio stands clear.
Mara: Of course the one useful door is stuck.
Panel 8. Sio looks towards the ratchet in Mara's gloved hand.
Sio: I would offer a motor. You know where mine is.
Panel 9. Mara opens a tall wall cabinet containing storage cartridges and a service socket, separate from the reserve battery.
Mara: Equipment events only. No private sessions.
Panel 10. Oren speaks from the cyan terminal.
Oren: My terminal can share its restart times.
Panel 11. Mara connects a thin lead from her tablet to the service socket inside the open wall cabinet. Sio watches.
Mara: Read-only connection. Nothing gets reset.
Panel 12. Two parallel timelines on the tablet have matching interruptions marked in amber.
Sio: The restarts line up.
Panel 13. Inez appears on an amber screen beside a timeline and an empty display pane.
Inez: Once I woke sure I had already asked a question.
Panel 14. Mara listens behind her sealed visor, holding her tablet low. Sio stands behind her.
Mara: Do you remember what it was?
Panel 15. Inez lowers her eyes, unable to recover the missing question.
Inez: No. That is what being missing feels like.
Panel 16. Mara silently rests one gloved hand on the connected reserve battery while Sio waits beside her.
No dialogue.
Panel 17. Vale compares a cyan completion list with a longer amber waiting list at Operations.
Vale: The evacuation report counted acknowledged arrivals.
Panel 18. The paired archive displays show completed rows beside unresolved entries omitted from the shorter list.
Vale: The waiting queue never entered the total.
Panel 19. Oren faces outward from his cyan screen beside an empty cradle.
Oren: So an empty column became an empty room.
Panel 20. Vale leans back at her console, troubled by the report she relied on.
Vale: And I signed work against that report.
Panel 21. Mara reconnects the small silver diagnostic cylinder beside the larger reserve battery.
Mara: Can we stop it accepting an old state?
Panel 22. Vale points between two test displays, each showing the same amber marker.
Vale: On the test channel. Require the latest marker before accepting.
Panel 23. Mara and Sio watch matching amber markers appear on the paired relay test screens.
Sio: Latest marker received and acknowledged.
Panel 24. Mara holds up a gloved palm towards Oren's terminal, keeping the test cylinder separate from the resident equipment.
Mara: One clean test. No proof it can carry a person safely.
Panel 25. Mara holds a flat blue data card at a reader beside the archive cabinet. The reserve battery remains connected in front.
Mara: Two copies of the equipment record, with their checksums.
Panel 26. Vale holds her own blue data card at the Operations console.
Vale: I will preserve the report and its correction separately.
Panel 27. Mara addresses Oren and Inez on their separate cyan and amber screens, with Sio between them.
Mara: Your memories stay with you. Testimony is your choice.
Panel 28. Oren looks firmly out of the cyan terminal.
Oren: Keep the gap in the record. Do not tidy it away.
Panel 29. Mara checks her tablet beside Sio and the connected reserve battery. Its blue indicator remains lit.
Sio: The reserve is falling. The files do not keep anyone awake.
Panel 30. Mara closes the separate archive cabinet with the blue data card secured in a pouch.
Mara: We need local power, and somebody outside this order to witness it.
Panel 31. Mara reaches towards Sio's lens housing while holding her tablet. A small waveform appears on Sio's side display.
Mara: Your arrival log might prove when the first call came.
Panel 32. Sio stands beside Mara with the anonymous waveform still showing, as she looks down at the tablet.
Sio: Some of that log is not mine to give.
