THE TWELFTH LANTERN
Episode 3: The girl who wanted to leave
Hush Lantern / WebtoonHaven
P01: Min-ji hesitates beside a plain green sketchbook on the grocery counter.
[Silent]
P02: Min-ji looks down at the book and admits the wish she has kept from her mother.
Min-ji: I want to go to art school.
Min-ji: I haven't told Mum.
P03: Haneul leans forward with a quick answer. Min-ji draws back.
Haneul: Then tell her. I'll help you explain.
Min-ji: You make it sound easy.
P04: Min-ji glances towards the closed storeroom door, worried about leaving her mother.
Min-ji: She already does everything here. If I leave, who stays?
P05: Haneul eases her shoulders and recognises that she answered too soon.
Haneul: Sorry. I was answering before you'd finished.
P06: Min-ji opens her sketchbook. Her thumb rests on the page above her supporting fingers. Pencil drawings show the shop window and roof studies.
[Silent]
P07: Min-ji looks towards the mountains beyond the shop window.
Min-ji: Places I've never seen. That's what I want to draw.
P08: A closer look at Min-ji reveals the fear beneath her wish to leave.
Min-ji: But I don't want Mum to think I don't love her.
P09: Across the counter, Haneul listens with her mouth closed. The open book remains between them.
[Silent]
P10: Min-ji turns towards the closed rear-right storeroom door and speaks for herself. Haneul watches quietly.
Min-ji: Mum? I want to go to art school.
P11: At the tea house, the second lantern has rekindled. All twelve lanterns in the one exterior row are lit.
[Silent]
P12: The first tea-house lantern flickers with a small flame while the second stays bright. A separate bell pavilion stands silently in the distance.
